The End

Well here it is the end of 2013

Happy New Year and I am looking forward to see what treasures we all find in the year 2014.
I am going to start--Again-- trying to eat less sugar. I love sweets and when I am anxious about something I bake LOL and it shows on me I look like the Pillsbury Dough Boy's girlfriend LOL

I have done this several times eat healthy like fruits and veggies for some months then get so hungry for a fresh carrot cake with cream cheese icing I bake one and eat 1/2 of it all at once. Really
I can't do anything in moderation so don't tell me this LOL

A dear friend of mine made me this card last year

My Little Mouse

Merry Christmas

I purchased this sweet little Hallmark ornament for my Grandmother when she was still alive. It reminded me of her when I first seen it she was always a seamstress and taught me how to embroidery she tried to teach me how to crochet but I just couldn't get it LOL. And who doesn't love a little Christmas Mouse? I set her in one of my sterling silver large ladles in my kitchen window

Then I love this Old World Santa made from an old quilt another item I have had for years. Since blue is my favorite color I just had to have him. A Missouri artist named Kathy Bierly made it . She use to be my neighbor then moved away to Paris. He has a  burlap back pack and he had fresh greens with red berries in it when I bought it. He is 24 inches tall

Is anybody besides me tired? I am going to bed early tonight LOL

Oh Christmas Tree

This is a soft little green feather tree I also bought years ago and have always put vintage little ornaments on  it which makes the little tree look vintage also

The usually cover  little wooden stand with something pretty like cotton or a lace doily. The little stockings I found in a box of vintage Christmas decorations and have always loved them . They are 3 inches top to toe end.

The little cardboard angel is vintage and the little metal rusty worn bells

I'm getting it all out for an old fashion Christmas. I'm not going for a glamorous Christmas this year just an old time one

Crown of Christmas

I still have a few little Christmas goodies to share, not the Christmas items you may expect, just things I like around the house at this time of year

My gold crown I bought a couple years ago at the downtown sidewalk sales. I think it looks good sitting in front of my Santos doll

I have these sitting on top of my old chippy shabby kitchen cabinet in my eating area of my kitchen
I like this little clown doll I found once and leave her out year around because I like her pink frilly dress and then I added her pearls and a lace collar

I have a cabinet in the studio I leave Christmas &  Santa's in year round

I covered my TV up with a white fancy lacy pillowcase not to ruin my pretty vignette  LOL

Father Christmas

Here is some of my vintage Christmas molds. The little one I bought in Glascow Missouri at an auction in the late 1980's when they were red hot in price. This auction had 2 rings goings and the front of the Santa mold was in front yard on a table and the back of it was on a  table in the back yard so I had to really do some maneuvering back and fort to watch when it was selling. That was the best sale I had ever been to as far as real old antique Christmas items went . Made in Germany and numbered 17573 also front and back is numbered 31 and 32.

This large Hello Kiddies Santa mold I bought t a yard sale and it was in original old cardboard box and I threw the box it away ! That was before I knew to keep any original box,and then I found out this mold was selling in shops for $250.00. I am sure I got it in the 1980's also. It is 12 inches tall where the little father Christmas one is 5 1/2 inch tall. However today things just aren't worth as much as they were in the 1980's.

I got the little Christmas Tree just a few years ago and I don't think it is an antique one due to the clips and it just looks new compared to my old ones. I think they look good sitting on my little plaid lunch box.

Vintage Christmas

I got a few items out to display for decorations anyway. I went to get some Christmas items to use in  the kitchen I had in my storage room however after digging around I noticed a few things I had forgotten about so decided to use them in a little vignette .
I love these old Christmas tins. I think I got them both at the same estate sale. One is a Henry Clive tin. This is the lid i'm showing you.

Henry Clive
Once when I was in Portland Oregon I went to an antique show there and a lady had this same tin on display and she is the one told me who Henry Clive was etc & that the tins were from the 1920's. I got it at an estate sale of a younger gal here in town who owned Gail's Chinatown. I am sure that is why she had this tin with the little china doll on the tin

Then I have this old tin I got an same estate sale and I loved her face it reminded me of Charles Dana Gibson girls . I didn't realize for sometime that her white fluffy fur around her neck was a dog . This is the lid of the tin I bet a fruit cake came in it years ago.

Gorgeous I think

See Her fur collar with the Dog in it?

Anyway I am getting a few things out

Christmas Coming

I am working on getting Christmas decorations out piece by piece. Seems like working 2 jobs and keeping my etsy store up and the house and trying to keep connected to friends and family I am a little busy. Also I bet age has something to do with it LOL
We didn't get the snow that St Louis and southern Missouri got today. I like snow just not the freezing rain under it. Oh and it's cold like 6 degrees
This is a little house I put on my tree a couple years ago which I may use it again on my white tree. I bought several of the little repo cardboard houses and used them all around the house, I even have a couple gorgeous pink houses with the bottle brush trees attached. This fringe I even draped around my tree for garland .

Then I love my music paper stars I got them at a store that sold Wendy Addison paper pieces, however these don't have her name on them

I am working on getting my white tree decorated tomorrow. I'll get it all together eventually

Chandelier

I was out shopping with the older gentlemen I check on for his family that lives overseas. We needed computer Christmas letterhead paper for his annual Christmas letter I am helping him with also needed the pretty envelopes to match the paper.
He wanted a Christmas wreath hook to hang on his door and as we walked pass all the Christmas decorations my eye went straight to the little 5 inch silver chandelier. I just had to have it LOL I have some hanging in the studio from my ceiling fans over my work tables. This one is 5 inches and was only $2.

I was up at one of my sisters house over the weekend ,the one who is cleaning out her house to move and she had a few little things she wanted to give me
We both like blue birds and she gave me this vintage postcard with the blue bird. I ask her are you going to give me the blue bird plates ? No was my answer LOL I thought I would try anyway LOL

Now I have got to get busy and get some Christmas decoration pictures to post it's not like I don't have any Christmas decor

Lace Dream

I know everybody is posting Christmas decor already and it's all gorgeous however i'm not ready to post Christmas yet.
I have been really in the mood to play with my lace and make something not especially pillows maybe lace covered box or something like that.
Just so I can drag out my little suitcases full of vintage lace and play

Wouldn't it be dreamy to have all of these ?
I found this picture in one of my Victorian magazines I think ? and always loved it thinking I could make those someday

Thinking also do I want to use my pearl handled flatware for Thanksgiving ? yes

Happy Thanksgiving

Turkey Story

I guess I should get the Butterball frozen turkey out of the freezer so it can de defrosting? I heard on the news it needs 4-6 days to defrost in refrigerator. Also that they announced there may be a shortage of fresh turkeys this year?  maybe at the price we want to pay uh?
My Grandmother always had fresh turkeys when I was a kid and one year we has pheasants instead I was so disappointed. my Grandfather has been pheasant hunting LOL we still had dressing and mashed potatoes gravy and pie. But I still whined LOL

Let me tell you about my first experience cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving.
I did know to buy a fresh turkey and my parents and younger sisters were driving up to Sterling Illinois where my husband and I had moved from Mt Vernon Illinois, my home town where we got married. Anyway off to the grocery store to buy potatoes canned green beans and a fresh turkey.
I unwrapped the bird put it on a cookie sheet and in the oven it went about an hour before everyone was to arrive.! I didn't wash it take anything out of the inside of the bird didn't rub it with butter and spices like grandma did LOL
I guess I didn't pay much attention as what Grandma and my Mom did in the kitchen after all LOL
needless to say we had mashed potatoes green beans and hot rolls for diner that day. My Mom redid the turkey and put it back in the oven I think ?
We had moved in a very small upstairs apartment and couldn't open any windows because they were painted shut.I remember we all set out on the stairwell because our apartment was very hot with the oven on. Also there was about 2 feet of snow on the ground. I remember my Mom telling me she kept trying to get my dad to turn around and go home because of bad roads. I was so home sick I would have cried all day if they had turned around and not come for Thanksgiving

Santos Dolled Up

Well I laugh at myself when I see these pictures because well all I can say is I tried LOL to get my head thoughts on this Santos
I am an artist only in my head I have such wonderful ideas however just can't produce them in actions
I still need to add something to her hands. I had a star and will work on it to get it glued or attached somehow

pictures in progress

I started with an old Victorian calender from 1995 to make her top and skirt

I took March and cut out her top and skirt and then the reverse side with numbers for her wings which I think need to be larger . I did try to darken her skin and couldn't find any paint or stain so used Old English which doesn't have her a good rich dark patina she needs to be

I used Mod podge glue to stick her top to her and of course had to add some glitter to her skirt

It was fun laughing all the time and thinking well this keeps me busy with something to do anyway. Also a peak in my messy studio

I still want something else on her shirt and a star in her crown. I hung a  black rosary and a cross necklace around her neck

I had a different crown I was going to use it was an old kerosene lamp piece however the jeweled one fit her much better . I was going to cut the lamp piece down and then glitter it up

Better

OK Now I think i'm done with all the extra things like the star in her crown and a huge snowflake around her neck

She may get a different look altogether after I find my paint looks like she has freckles in the above picture LOL

Here she is completed

If you didn't read my last post I started with this a prairie girl from goodwill
I usually like maybe 3 picture however I had to show ever step in playing with my new santos doll

Today is my Birthday November 17 do any of you have a birthday today also?

Santos

For a couple of years I have wanted one of those Santos dolls that Ballard Designs have had on their web page .The large cage dolls.
I just knew I didn't need anything else in my house since I am trying to clean out all of my once loved items
I was at Goodwill in Jefferson City Missouri and seen this doll in the toy section of dolls and looked at her face and it was wood so I felt of her arms and they moved like jointed ? So I pulled up her dress and looked at her legs, wood ? I wonder if I could make me a Santos doll out of this ? I said to myself
I always try to make something  look like something I didn't want to spend big bucks on like a $200 Santos Doll
I gave $4 for her and brought her home and stripped her of her prairie clothing to make her a new era Santos

Her clothing came off great just a few broken stitches and TAA DAA

I have an idea in my mind how I want to fix her up however getting my idea on her will be a different thing
Now we will see if you ever get to see her completed. Like I said I have all these ideas and don't get half of them completed. I hope some of you are like me and don't get all your ideas completed so I won't feel like so bad LOL

I like this one and NO Ballard Designs has not offered me anything for mentioning their site they don't know me or my blog LOL just wanted you to know my idea
There is another one I love however couldn't copy it

I really am going right to the studio and look at my inspiration picture and get to work , maybe you will see her completed or a picture of what I was going for.
I know lots of the Santos aren't dresses however some have glitter wings LOL

Company Coming

Today I was thinking what the heck am I  going to post about today. The Yard sale is over and I got rid of a lot of things I was ready to pass on ,sell, give a way whatever. It was a fun day a couple gals came over I use to work with at Verizon and I hadn't seen them for a couple years. Also some old neighbors drove by and stopped to visit.
I had a pot of chili on the stove so had lunch ready and it was cold here Friday very windy. My sister and I had a few cups of chili while playing with my yard sale. My next door neighbor was also helping.
Gina from Victorian  Wanna Be  came by also. It's always fun to visit with Gina

Also I have  a friend from Kentucky coming up this week from Paducah. She is coming up to visit her sister in Fulton Missouri so I will get to see her also we were friends when we was in our 20's .
I have been friends with her sister for a few good years also.
This picture is some of the items setting on top of my old shabby chic chippy china cabinet in my kitchen . I had all the china powder puff gals in this vintage cup that say Think of Me

Next Up Thanksgiving

Here I am up at 1 am can't sleep and have a yard sale in the morning and so much stuff to get out don't know if it will all be on tables or people can just dig through the plastic tubs it's mostly in. I went to sleep about 9:30 now wide awake .
I thought might as well change from my Halloween pumpkin to my Turkey plate on my blog while i'm up. I am cooking the bird this year so can use all my brown & white tranferware dishes. If you were around last year to see my turkey plates you seen the brown & white ones then the same plate with colors. I like them both so just mix them up

OK we got through Halloween and now we are onto the rush of Thanksgiving which I can't believe,
We can be checking prices for our turkey's now. LOL

Animals

I have been  very busy with things besides cleaning house  however as I looked around and thought about what I was going to post about next I seen my little animals setting on a shelf besides my kitchen sink.
I purchased this Spode set of spice jars years ago and have never got tired of seeing them them, There is 6 altogether

I do my post one at a time what ever comes to mind I post about it and take pictures etc. I was reading a post where a gal had 200 drafts of post already made up? Wow

Another thing while i'm thinking out loud I have read several blogs that I loved reading and just couldn't wait to see what they posted about next and ALL of a sudden no posts no explanations no nothing they just QUIT. One gal was in Germany I remember her blog name as Vintage Girl , she always dressed so cute and came to Texas to buy Magnolia Pearls clothing line . Remember her?

Anyway that has been on my mind about why they quit blogging maybe bored with it

Besides my spice jars I have this large ironstone platter on my kitchen counter and it has all the cows grassing in front of a huge farm house. I usually only have blue & white in my kitchen however couldn't pass up the cow platter (since cows are popular now LOL)
Then the cow in front of my chalkboard platter  I got new at a local antique shop with a gift card I won at the store
Those are some of my roma tomatoes I grew  in my flower bed. I picked them all before our 25 degrees temperature this morning

Another thing on my mind this morning I was reading a blog where a gal listed 10 things we didn't know about her.
I was thinking wow that is brave of her of course they were little bitty things not like the Big 10 things I could mention about me and my life LOL
