Here We Go Again

Happy 2017 !!! can you believe it? When I was a child in grade school I never could have imagined seeing the year 2000 or really I use to think about that as a child and couldn't imagine 1970 LOL
Look at me now. Out in blog land and enjoying the internet in 2017!

I have been straightening up my house of course like everyone else and got a little shopping in while on break from work.I went internet shopping and found a little creamer to match my Mason red and white dishes now need to look for a sugar bowl to match. Of course at a good price like the creamer.

I found this creamer on a shopping day out with Bernideen and Gina who is my blog friends here in Columbia Mo . We went to a new shop for us named Enchanting Frog at Lathrop Missouri. We really liked this shop. On the way we stopped at a shop that was closing in Lexington Missouri. I knew the lady and had to go to her final sale, where we got some lovely items also.
I love this old large pitcher coffee pot? whatever it's lid is missing and has two holes where a lid was attached at one time. Because it was red transferware I had to have it. Got it in Lexington.
And then ? I went to the after Christmas sale at our local Dillard's and bought myself a 8 place setting of these gorgeous red and white transfeware Christmas dishes named Twas The Night. Last year I only got 3 plates because I arrived to late and this year I was right on time. Stood in line outside for 30 minutes for the doors to open. I even got a large platter and a large serving flat bowl. My plates I got last year had green leaves around the plates

I am cleaning out an old pine pie safe I have in the studio to arrange all these dishes . I will leave them out year around like I do a lot of my vintage Christmas items. I just really over shopped which I do once in a while ! LOL don't you once in a while over shop? Tell me you do

  8. Wow! The dishes from Dillard's are GORGEOUS! I know you will love having them. I would definitely display them year round. I'm going to run over to Dillard's tomorrow just to look around at the clearance racks...try to find some good deals. Happy new year sweet lady! Hugs, Diane

  10. The Twas the Night are my favorites of all the Christmas china out there. So wonderful you can display them year round. They will never go out of style; they're heirlooms for sure.

  11. I usually over shop!! Or more like, one for the shop, one for me....I love your transferware finds. They are gorgeous as are the Christmas set. I would love something like that.

  12. Ooooh, the transferware dishes are so, so gorgeous! I see they are from Johnson Bros. I have some octagonal ironstone dinnerware by Johnson Bros. which I love. The ones you bought though are really special. I might just have to look for a small set of those!

As to whether I overshop or not, it depends on who in my family besides me you ask! My daughters would both say YES, all the time! I don't think I do very much, though. I am very aware of what the budget will take and when I thrift shop I try to stay under $20. per trip. So, I think I'm pretty conservative. But once in a while, when you find something you've been hunting for for a long time, you just have to bite the bullet and get it, right?'
    Right!

    Enjoyed seeing your goodies!

  13. First of all, thank you for stopping by my family history blog, The Leatherman Tree. I'm always surprised when people find that instead of my main blog, Marmelade Gypsy, which is much broader -- home and life! And I wish you a very happy new year as well.

I am wild about transferware and was delighted to see your post. What wonderful finds! Isn't Johnson Bros. the best? Old or new, their designs never fail to draw me in and enchant me. So pretty in every single way.

I was interested to learn that you were in Columbia. My good friend from here in Michigan has lived there since the late 1970s -- Lisa and David Lang (they had kids, Courtney, Andrew and I'm so embarrassed I am blanking on the other daughter's name. I visited once long ago and found it a wonderful town.

Thanks again for finding me! ~ jeanie at Marmelade Gypsy

  14. In my younger days I definitely over bought things. Now today wish I had not. My taste in things and my families are not the same.

  15. Many years ago I had the cranberry red transferware Brothers, yet I also had a stoneware, and China thing, I had place setting stored everywhere, a few years back it was time to say good by to all that made no sense for me to hold onto, to then simplify and enjoy my layers of old with neutrals. There are times I wish I had a place setting back to use for an occation, yet keeping it neutral allows me seriously not to bore or tire of it or feel to cluttered.
This year I was craving the mix of red into my holidays, this setting will be perfect displayed in your pie safe, fittingly.
You can find me thrifting often more then not, and my blog and home reflects my obsession in a heartbreakingly old find, turned beautiful all over again.

Enjoy your hunts, your displaying of your finds, keep inspiring us.
It's been far to long in a visit to you.
See you soon, I am off to read you past postings.

  18. Well I adore red transferware and have a thrifted collection. It started with a boxful of Mason for $20. Now whenever I run across a piece I cannot resist it! I have mixed designs and love the eclectic feel of it. I found a sugar bowl this year. The lid is missing and it's not mason, but I love it! Hope you find one too. Love everything you've shown! Oh, and I think I found just one plate from the Twas the Night. I've packed it away for next year. Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  21. I am so happy you found those beautiful dishes! We don't have a Dillards any where near me. If I did I would have bought them too! On Replacement.com they do have the teapot. The ones that are "seconds" are reasonably priced. Happy January!
