Don't you just love this time of year when we can start getting our spring pretties out? Like my Hens on a Nest and my old baskets.
I know I have more someplace among all these treasures but will show a few today.
I don't ever remember my Grandmother having these but my Mom had lots of them and when our Dad had an auction after Mom passed away they all went to someone else house or shop. My sisters and I thought we got everything we wanted that was special to us but now we know we let a lot of treasures go.
This jadeite hen is not old it's a reproduction. I don't even know why I have it because I don't like reproductions of anything old but she is pretty
This one is old it use to have a cardboard bottom and had candy in it. The only way into it was remove the bottom to get to the candy. You can see them in antique shops
This one was Mom's and my youngest sister gave to her once for Christmas and it has a candy dish made out of the same glass . Sister didn't want it so I rescued it and glad I did.
This white one was Mom's also it is an Avon hen on nest. I remember when she got this one
I bought this one at a Hallmark store one Easter season. I liked the blue color and it sits in my kitchen window for a sun catcher also the old hen with no bottom sits with this one LOL
Baskets go right along with hen and chickens this is a Princess House basket my Mom gave all of us girls one and we still all have them. She use to sell Princess House and had china cabinets full of it. That is another thing that sold at the auction.
when she would buy us things like that she put it away till we would respect it and we RESPECT it now.
This is a half basket I call it . It belonged to my Great Aunt Ollie . Mom had it and always valued it so I am keeping it for Mom I guess since she loved it so much. I have old purses in it and guess I could have emptied it before I took pictures but I didn't
This is an old basket I bought at an auction once , just liked it and the elderly lady that owned it was at her sale . She lived in a tiny little house and it was so sad I think for her to watch all her treasures selling. I told her I would treasure her old basket and I bought some tin measuring cups and tin measuring spoons and use them every time I bake
Her is a newer basket that I made at a basket class once. I was bored one winter and someone at work said ,in a little town not far from me Mexico Missouri In the back of an antique shop, they was having a 2 night basket class so I called up and got my name on the list. I had No idea how to make a basket and those other women was just whipping out their wet pieces of what ever it is made out of and going to town. I was sitting there saying how do you do this ???????????????LOL I got it made but what a challenge now it's so funny to think about what how incapable I felt. The other ladies had done this several times and it was my first

I love your hens! The blue iridescent (spelling???) They are marvelous! I too have let a lot of items 'pass' me by over the years, but with years comes experience, and now that I have some more mature mindsets, I realize that just because something doesn't speak to me at a certain time, I will take advantage of it anyway if it has a memory associated with it of a loved one. I hope you are able to find some more chickies to add to your wonderful collection!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing them!
Blessings, Doni

ReplyDeleteI think the basket you made is beautiful! I'm impressed! Love all of your hens in baskets. What a great collection, and I'm so glad you rescued some of your mother's. I'm glad you didn't take the purses out of the "half" basket. I think that's a great way of displaying the basket and the purses. Thank you for linking to Favorite Things. laurie
